Civic ordinances and cemetery rules and guidelines often determine the style, size color and finish of the memorials permitted. Please be sure to consult professional monument installers like Timeless Monuments before selecting or designing your memorial.
Some families have lots where large monuments are permitted in such cases the family name may be used on the large monument and smaller flat markers maybe used for individual names. Flat/slant markers as well as upright stones are often used as memorials in most cemeteries. If permitted, a base not only gives the monument added height but in many cases accommodate a vase where flowers can be held Memorial Park Cemeteries only permit flat Bronze/Granite Markers
Granite Memorials come in many different colors. The most commonly used is the Barre Gray, Canadian Pink, Mahogany and Impala Black. This granite come from United States and Canada and are the most affordable. Jet Back and Indian Red are very popular. However they are shipped from places like Africa , India and China and they are more expensive due to shipping costs. These colors are vibrant and really show the beauty of the designs. Polished granite whenever sand blasted becomes much lighter and has a rougher appearance. Darker polished granite has a greater contrast.
When designing a Carving for a memorial, you want to be sure not to overcrowd the design. Carvings should be of some importance to the person being honored. For example a religious, military,or sports theme. Some families like carvings to involve music or other personal interest.
Etchings are like photographs or drawings that have been scratched into the polished monument. Most often they are portraits of people or animals. Etchings are used when great detail is desired on darker stone usually black granite.
